Import substitute used for label & sticker printing

Following the successful introduction of 1-, 2-, and 3-color roll-to-roll screen printing machines for labels, Vasai-based Umrao Automation has introduced the 4-color version. This new roll-to-roll screen printing machine is designed for bulk printing of labels and stickers.

The machine can be used to print labels on various roll media such as PVC, soft plastic circuits, heat transfer paper, soft metal substrate, polyester, vinyl, etc, from 50 microns to 300 gsm. Umrao's roll-to-roll label screen printing machine is already being used in cycle stickers, automotive decals, and heat transfer label applications.

Umrao Automation CEO Rajendra Rajage said, "The roll-to-roll screen printing machine for the label industry is an import option for Indian customers." Rajage said customers can use the machine for spot UV and other value addition on flexo printed jobs or go for flexo printing after screen printing on Umrao Automation's printer. It can print on various substrates such as vinyl, polycarbonate, flexible metal, gum paper, etc.

"This inter-print process flexibility, coupled with the application flexibility (one machine to screen print on different media) and speed of the machine (1000 impressions per hour) are the winning factors of our roll-to-roll screen printing machine. As a result, we receive repeat orders from numerous customers," says Rajendra Rajage, adding, "Our machine is an import substitute and offered at competitive prices, it is a trouble-free machine and anytime our team offers prompt after-sales service."

Rajendra Rajage said: "About 10 years ago, after evaluating the market demand and on customers’ requests, we first designed and manufactured the 2-color roll-to-roll screen printing machine. We then designed 1-color, 3-color, and 4-color versions. We have sold over 50 such machines in India. A few top label printers who use our screen printing machine are Update Prints, GSP Labels, etc, who are our repeat customers.

Highlighting the machine's advantages, Rajendra explained: "By investing in our roll-to-roll screen printing machines, label printing firms can have an economically viable printing operation. They can avoid using a single-color flatbed semi-automatic screen-printing machine for such jobs, which is time-consuming. A flatbed single-color machine can print about 850 impressions per hour, which means a 4-color job would require approximately four hours to print one job of 850 pieces. On the other hand, the roll-to-roll label screen printing machine offers higher productivity, offering about 1,000 impressions per hour."

Umrao Automation offers 12 models of screen printing machines with a maximum print size of 15×20 inches. These include 1-color with UV, with IR and with UV/IR combo; 2-color with UV, with IR and with UV/IR combo; 3-color with UV, with IR and with UV/IR combo; and 4-color with UV, with IR, and with UV/IR combo. The UV curing machine is fitted with a 300-watt/inch lamp and an air-cooling system.

Umrao's roll-to-roll label screen printing machines are fitted with a winder, and unwinder units, specially designed for intermittent web feeding. It has a hole punch pilot guide system for accurate repeat pass for multiple times. The machine is fitted with an infinite variable and independent print and flood speed, adjustable from 0 to max speed. These machines are designed and have built-in in compliance with international quality standards, using the latest production methods and tools.

Rajage said, "I started the company in 2000. Today, we are known for the customization of screen-printing machinery and equipment. Often customers come with a requirement that does not fit into the existing product range. We then offer customized solutions after thoroughly understanding our customers’ needs. As a result, 40% of our production is special purpose machines."

Umrao Automation has over two decades of presence in the market. The company offers semi-automatic screen-printing machines and allied equipment for diverse industries such as carbon track printing, sensor printing, solar panel printing, PCB, industrial label printing, graphics screen printing, decal printing, ceramic decals, spot UV, wedding cards, bag printing, garment printing, etc.

The impact, resilience, and growth of responsible packaging in a wide region are daily chronicled by Packaging South Asia.

A multi-channel B2B publication and digital platform such as Packaging South Asia is always aware of the prospect of new beginnings and renewal. Its 16-year-old print monthly, based in New Delhi, India hasdemonstrated its commitment to progress and growth. The Indian and Asian packaging industries have shown resilience in the face of ongoing challenges over the past three years.

As we present our publishing plan for 2023, India's real GDP growth for the financial year ending 31 March 2023 will reach 6.3%. Packaging industry growth has exceeded GDP growth even when allowing for inflation in the past three years.

The capacity for flexible film manufacturing in India increased by 33% over the past three years. With orders in place, we expect another 33% capacity addition from 2023 to 2025. Capacities in monocartons, corrugation, aseptic liquid packaging, and labels have grown similarly. The numbers are positive for most of the economies in the region – our platform increasingly reaches and influences these.

Even given the disruptions of supply chains, raw material prices, and the challenge of responsible and sustainable packaging, packaging in all its creative forms and purposes has significant headroom to grow in India and Asia. Our context and coverage engulf the entire packaging supply chain – from concept to shelf and further – to waste collection and recycling. We target brand owners, product managers, raw material suppliers, packaging designers and converters, and recyclers.

In an admittedly fragmented and textured terrain, this is the right time to plan your participation and marketing support communication – in our impactful and highly targeted business platform.
